What You'll Be Doing:

You'll be building the core infrastructure that makes AXCEPT work. This includes payment processing APIs, integrations with financial institutions and payment processors, database architecture, and the backend services that power our merchant portal and internal tools.

You're not just maintaining code—you're architecting systems, making decisions about scalability and security, and building features that handle real money for real businesses. You'll work across the stack when needed, but your primary focus is on backend infrastructure and API development.

Your Impact:

• Build and maintain payment processing infrastructure that handles thousands of transactions

• Design and implement APIs that connect merchants, payment processors, and financial institutions

• Own database architecture and ensure data integrity, security, and performance

• Create integrations with third-party payment platforms and financial services

• Shape our technical architecture and engineering practices as an early technical hire

• Work directly with founders and product leadership to define the technical roadmap

What You Bring:

Experience & Technical Skills

• 4-6+ years of professional backend development experience

• Strong proficiency in Node.js and Python

• Experience designing and building RESTful APIs

• Solid understanding of database design and management (PostgreSQL, MySQL, or similar)

• Experience with API integrations and working with third-party services

• Understanding of security best practices, especially for handling sensitive financial data

• Familiarity with cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP, or Azure)

• Experience with version control (Git) and deployment pipelines

Bonus Points

• Experience in FinTech, payments, or financial services

• Knowledge of payment processing systems and payment gateway integrations

• Experience with microservices architecture

• Familiarity with containerization (Docker, Kubernetes)

• Experience with message queues and event-driven architectures

• Understanding of PCI compliance and financial data regulations

Compensation:

Base Salary: $150,000 - $200,000

• Competitive salary based on experience and skills

Equity

• 1% - 3% equity stake in AXCEPT
